In today’s digital landscape, passwords face significant vulnerabilities to data breaches and phishing attacks. Even strong passwords can be compromised.
Recognising this issue, Google has developed Passkeys as a more straightforward and secure solution. Passkeys allow users to sign into applications and websites without the need to remember passwords.
This innovative solution utilises biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint scans, facial authentication, pin and pattern authentication, and hardware-based security keys, ensuring a secure and seamless experience.
Google has confirmed that Passkeys will not replace passwords and 2FA in the immediate future. In an official blog post, the tech giant acknowledges that passwords will continue to exist for some time but recognises the frustrations of remembering them and the risks if they fall into the wrong hands.
Passkeys offer an additional sign-in option alongside traditional passwords and 2-Step Verification (2SV). Google aims to provide users with a seamless login experience that eliminates the need to remember passwords by the next World Password Day.
